Trafalgar Regatta 17 / 18 / Sept 2005

Over the weekend the CYC ran a Trafalgar Regatta for fast and slow handicap for their own members and visitors. On Saturday in bright cool weather with a light northerly there were two races in the mouth of the Colne. First away was the slow handicap, sixteen strong, and was quickly dominated by visitors from Mersea, Dan Willets Sonata Camel Toe out in front chased closely by the faster Sigma 292 Dura of Alan Mason. On their tail were two more Sonatas, Ghost Buster, Ian Vince and Red Bone, Mark Purdie.

In the eight strong fast Handicap right from the start there was a close fought battle between visitor Richard Haydons Boatox and local boats Cracker, Steve Heppell and Mike Hempsteads Sigducer. At the start the slower Sigducer held the advantage and Boatox had to fight hard to get ahead at the windward mark which Cracker failed to do! Down wind to the Bench the natural order re-established itself with Cracker getting ahead of Sigducer. Beating up to No6 following the slow handicap Cracker managed to get right up with Boatox but Sigducer was hanging on.

On a close reach back to Inner Bench the stiff little Sonatas managed to carry their Spinnakers well but Boatox and Sigducer found it extremly difficult to carry theirs. Cracker flying his Asymmetrical, although struggling at times, she gained an advantage to take the lead. Sigducer lost any chance to save his time on the other two when dropping his Spinnaker. It went over the side and trawled astern!

At the end of the beat to No8 the race was shortened for both Classes which got every one in the spread out fleet finished, so the second race could be started in good time.

By now the tide was ebbing and at the slow handicap start there was a problem with a drifting limit mark. The line was reset and it became imperative to start at the pin end out of the tide over the Cocum Hills. This time the race was completely dominated by the three Sonatas. led convincingly by Camel Toe with Dura chasing behind them all starting from the pin end. Those that tried to start in the tide, in some, cases failed to even cross the line and those that headed down the second beach ended up along way behind and several were out of time or retired.

In the fast handicap Sigducer got away to a flying start, worked all the wind shifts and at No8 the windward mark was still ahead of the faster Boatox and Cracker. Again there was a split between those over the Cocum Hills and those heading down second beach who lost out.

Down wind to the Bench Sigducer managed to hold the lead. On the tricky beat up to No6 Sigducer worked the shifts. He held off Cracker but Boatox slipped through but was not saving his time at the mark.

The close reach back to the Inner Bench was tricky but Sigducer held his Spinnaker well, hung onto Boatox and held off Cracker all the way to the mark.

Just up stream a line was laid to shorten the race. Sigducer worked up to the line with the minimum of tacks to save his time on Boatox by more than three minutes and Cracker over the water to take first place of the combined overall fast and slow fleets!

After an excellent Saturday night party there was still a good turn out for the Sunday morning races run from Batemans line on a windward, leeward course up and down the river. The slow handicap got off to a confused start with Camel Toe being over the line but not being informed properly till his position was compromised. John Carr in Colne Clipper was also over which just about finished off a very frustrating weekend for him!

Dura then lead the race all the way round but Camel Toe recovered from his poor start to finish second over the water. After receiving "Redress" from a protest actually won the race on Handicap!

The fast Handicap had been reinforced by two more Mersea Yachts. Phantom and Bananaman. Again Sigducer got away first and was leading Yacht at No15. Down wind to Mersea stone local Knowledge enabled Sigducer to hang on in front but once in clear water Phantom Sprinted ahead. Even so Sigducer held off Boatox and Cracker to No8. On the close reach to No13 Boatox predictably rolled over Sigducer.

On the wind to No15 Sigducer worked the shifts well and running back to the Stone tried to get right inshore by the wreck to dodge the tide but over did it and ran aground. Cracker caught right up and both raced neck and neck round the stone. Sigducer judged his change to Genoa better and edged ahead again but spinnakering down to No13 from No8 Crackers Asymmetrical got him past Sigducer.

At No13 with a narrow lead hard on the wind Cracker set out to cover Sigducer but tacked on a false and allowed Sigducer a clear run to the line to save her time on Boatox but not Phantom.

Colne Yacht Club Racing Report 20/8/05.

Saturday morning in a brisk northerly nine Yachts contested the start of the 5th Cock Of The River. Colin Willet in Redwing was too keen and was a premature starter. Up Wind to No17 Robin Impeys Das Boot took the lead and was first at the mark. Redwing had recovered well and was not far behind with Graham Adams Metaphor and Ivon Cornells Danera.

Down wind to No 13 Redwing was first to set a Spinnaker, quickly came up level with and over took Das Boot. Metaphor got his up in time to avoid Daneras fate of being swallowed up by the pack consisting of Jumana, Danny Smith, Deben Huntress, Glen Bacon, Mistress of Colne, Alan Lee and Tony Divers Bula who had all hoisted promptly at the mark. Only Sue Lasts Sarantina with out a Spinnaker was on the drag!

By No 13 Das Boot got his Spinnaker going and slowly edged ahead of Redwing. Danera slipped out of the pack who were heading down the slack water on the St. Osyth side and followed the leaders to the Mersea side and managed to get to No8 just ahead of Metaphor and the pack. Das Boot with a clear lead tried to carry his Spinnaker to No6 but it would not do and as he sagged to leeward Redwing again reached over him and was under pressure from Metaphor and Danera. Then came the critical moment. Redwing, Metaphor and Danera were all high on the mark and failed to spot it even when Das Boot rounded it and over stood to varying degrees. The pack split between over standing and laying right onto the mark. The main beneficiary was Bula who came right up behind Jumana who had got to the mark behind Redwing but ahead of Danera. Reaching up to Inner Bench Head Bula got past Danera.

Beating up to the finish Das Boot continued to edge away from Redwing to take first place on the water and on handicap. Right on the line Junana was forced to tack off the Mersea shore for lack of water. Bula nearly beat him over the water as well as on handicap. Huntress came in next to take second place on Handicap folowed by Danera who had dropped right back. Mistress came in next to take third place on handicap.

1st Das Boot, Dehler 34, Robin Impy,
2nd Deben Huntress Hunter 26, Glen Bacon,
3rd Mistress of Colne, Hunter 701, Alan Lee.

FW: Colne Yacht Club Racing Report. Series 2000 6th August 2005

In dull conditions with a brisk wind eight club Yachts came to the line for the fifth Series 2000 race. In a close spinnaker start Mike Hempsteads Sigducer was the first to brake out of the pack followed by Dave Draoers Egret and Geoff Shaws Pineapple ll. Behind, the others fought hard to catch up.

Approaching Inner Bench Head Egret and Pineapple were both pressing Sigducer hard but a gust came through, Egret broached and Pineapple took his spinnaker off. Sigducer road out the gust to stretch out a lead. Astern Robin Impeys Das Boot finally got his Spinnaker going and was now racing closely with Ivan Cornals Danera and Glen Bacons Deben Huntress.

At Colne Bar there was a tricky spinnaker gybe to get to North Eagle. Danera gybed, then broached into a 'Knock Down' that tipped two of the crew over the side! Das Boot stood by till they recovered then they both retired from the race!

At the front Egret again caught up with Sigducer but on rounding the North Eagle and coming hard on the wind to No 10 the conditions suited the bigger Sigducer. There was enough tide to allow them to hold one long tack over the North West Knoll into the
Ray Sand Channel. From there it was a short tack up to the mark. Then followed an easy two sail reach to the Inner Bench Head and from there it was just possible to fetch down the river and lay the line. Sigducer more or less held his lead established at No 10 but this was not enough to beat Egret on Handicap although Sigducer did manage to save his time on Pineapple who came in fourth over the water from Huntress.

1st Egret, Parker 27, Dave Draper,
2nd Sigducer, Sigma 33, MikeHempstead,
3rd Pineapple ll, Beneteau 235, Geoff Shaw.

Colne Yacht Club Racing Report. 29/31 July.

After a busy Pyefleet week and a clash with a big cruise to Ostend only three CYC Yachts turned out for the sixth Friday evening race.

At the start Colin Willets Redwing got away best at the windward end of the line followed by Geoff Shaws Pineapple ll. Tony Diver in Bula starting at the Tower end sailed out of the wind and looked lost! Pineapple hung on close to Redwing as they both stood in close to Second Beach. However Bula tacked off into the new ebb tide and picked up a new breeze and at one point looked as if he would beat the others to No8. Just in time the wind reached the others. Pineapple got it first and just beat Redwing and Bula to the mark by a few seconds.

Down wind to No9 Redwing flew his Spinnaker and closed right up on Pineapple and on the much closer reach back to No13 at first got ahead of Pineapple. The wind continued to head and while Redwing made a difficult drop Pineapple took the lead again and held it to the line where the race was shortened.

1st Pineapple ll, Beneteau 235, Geoff Shaw,
2nd Redwing, Etap 28,Colin Willet,
3rd Bula Robber Mklll, Tony Diver.

Sunday Race 31 July

On Sunday afternoon six Club Yachts came to the line for the seventh in the Pursuit Race series. Sue Lasts Sarantina was first away but Geoff Shaws Pineapple ll was soon after her and as they tacked back from No8 round No13 they both ran aground inside No10.

Pineapple managed to spin off but the long keel Sarantina was stuck for the  afternoon!
As Tony Divers Bula tacked through the line he was being pressed by Dave Drapers Egret who had already reduced Bulas initial advantage to a mere thirty seconds. Minutes later Bula fell into a windless black hole and Egret was past and close to No15 Mike Hempsteads Sigducer caught him as well. Right at the back, the scratch boat, Steve Heppels Cracker was trying to catch up but after being late at the start and running aground approaching No15 for the first time could not recover. Egret tried to run down Pineapple but even the advantage of a Spinnaker was not enough for him to get up with the runaway winner!

Colne Yacht Club Cruiser Racing 23/7/05

Saturday afternoon saw ten Colne Yacht Club Yachts come to the line in very good conditions. At the start Mike Hempsteads Sigducer was first away up by the Tower. Das Boot, Robin Impy, to leeward fought the tide but was still within striking distance at both No13 and No8.

Further back Colin Willets Redwing was leading the pack closely followed by Glen Bacons Deben Huntress. At No8 Sigducer went straight for his Spinnaker while Das Boot held off to see if it was possible to carry the Spinnaker all the way to No6. It was and Sigducer gained a big lead by carrying his all the way from mark to mark. Redwing kept up and Huntress continued to stay ahead of Tony Divers Bula. At the back Ivan Cornels Danera, a late starter was working his way through the fleet.

Sigducer layed the Bench Head in one long tack and a very short one. Most of the others did not do so well and Sigducer stretched his lead. Reaching back into the Colne Sigducer manoeuverd so that he could fly his Spinnaker down the last reach to the line. The others did the same. At the finish Hunteress did enough crossing the line
fourth to win on handicap by more than six minutes. Das Boot did just enough to beat Sigducer to second place by one second!!

1st Deben Huntress, Hunter 26, Glen Bacon,
2nd Das Booyt, Dalher 34, Robin Impy,
3rd Sigducer, Sigma 33, Mike Hempstead.

PURSUIT RACE SUNDAY 29TH MAY 2005

For the Pursuit race on Sunday six Yachts turned out. Unfortunately the wind was very light and the long windward leg out to the Bench Head absorbed the whole running time of the race. Sarantina, Sue Last, the first away managed to get far enough out to avoid getting becalmed as the wind faded from inshore. Jumana, Danny Smith just struggled clear to end up some fifty yards adrift of the others, Mistress of Colne, Alan Lee, Mwingo Fred Spriggs and Metaphor, Graham Adams were all badly caught and did not prosper. Deben Huntress, Glen Bacon Retired.

FRIDAY EVENING 27th MAY 2005 1st RACE

For the first ever race of this series seven Yachts turned out. At first it appeared that there was not enough wind for the race to start but at the last moment a breeze came in from the south east. Colin Willet's Redwing was right on the line at the start but Graham Adams in Metaphor tried to run in late under spinnaker.

For a brief while he took the lead but then ran aground and the rest of the fleet sailed past up to No 15. As the Yachts tacked down to No 13 and then onto No 9 and No 8, Redwing held the lead but was closely pressed by Dave Drapers Egret. Metaphor was in close company with Danny Smith's Jumana and Sue Last in Sarantina held on just ahead of Glen Bacon in Deben Huntress and Alan Lee in Mistress of Colne,

Running back up river the wind faded again and the race was shortened to one lap. Redwing just scraped in ahead of Egret while Sarantina came up from fifth to third on handicap. All the others finished in pairs close together.

Colne Yacht Club Cruiser Race 21/5/05

Saturday morning, with a fine south south westerly, nine CYC Yachts contested the start of the second race in the 2000 series. So hotly, that three of them, Sigducer, Mike Hempstead, Mistress of Colne, Alan Lee and Egret, Dave Draper were premature starters and had to turn back and restart!

Sigducer recovered quickly and by the time the pack had past No 13 they were up with them and breaking through into the lead. For a while Sheherazade, Nick Howland kept pace but Sigducer judged her break away from the Point Clear shore better, and as they headed for Bench Head, started to work up a lead. Further back the other late starters were doing well. Egret came through to third place and Mistress was up with her usual running mate, Glen Bacons Deben Huntress.

The beat to Bench Head proved difficult as there were many lifts and headers and it was clear that rain squalls were heading down wind to the fleet. Sigducer rounded first and held off hoisting her spinnaker till she was sure where No 6 was! Of the rest only Egret spinnakered as the rain squalls looked very threatening! However when they did come the wind actually dropped and the middle order, Jumana, Danny Smith, Bula Tony Diver and Pineapple ll, Geoff Shaw lost touch with the leaders who carried more breeze down most of the leg. Sarantina, Sue Last had considerable difficulty finding Bench Head as it was lost in the rain!

Reaching under spinnaker to No 8 and then running home Sigducer stretched her lead to take first place. Egret finally managed to spinnaker past Sheherazade but could not do quite enough to pip them for second place. Jumana, Bula and Pineapple all finished close together, Pineapple just coming out on top. Mistress and Huntress finished closely but Sarantina just beat them on handicap.

1st Sigducer, Sigma 33, Mike Hempstead,
2nd Sheherazade, Oceanis 350, Nick Howland,
3rd Egret, Parker 27, Dave Draper.

Colne Yacht Club Cruiser Pursuit Race 15/5/05

On a bright, cool afternoon with a light southerly, nine CYC yachts set off on a staggered start. Sarantina, Sue Last was first away followed by Mwingo, Fred Sprigs. Then starting in close company came Uilani, Trevor Stone, Pineapple ll, Jeff Shaw, Deben Huntress, Glen Bacon and Mistress of Colne, Alan Lee. Lunan, Simon Sayward and Jumana, Danny Smith started together with Sigducer, Mike Hempstead bringing up the rear.

Beating down to No 13 and on to No 8 Sarantina held on to her advantage. Both Lunan and Jumana got through to second and third but Huntress, Mistress, Pineapple and Uilani held on close together swapping places among themselves and getting past Mwingo. Sigducer came down the beat fast and at the mark was right up with the pack.

Running down to No 15 Sarantina continued to hold a lead on Lunan despite not having a Spinnaker. Lunan had edged away from Jumana, and Sigducer worked her way through the pack who continued to stick close together. Mwingo dropped back and lost touch.

Off Mersea Stone Sarantina was still holding a fair but diminishing lead over Lunan. After No 13 she headed into Second Beach to dodge the tide, went in to far and ran aground. This was the edge Lunan required and once past started to open up a lead.

Sigducer continued to make progress overtaking Jumana on the beat
to No 8. On rounding the mark she had Sarantina in her sights but could not run her down in the time remaining. Further back Jumana was on her own. Pineapple was just ahead of Uilani who was disputing sixth place with both Mistress and Huntress.

1st Lunan Jouet 920, Simon Sayward,
2nd Sarantina Samphire 26, Sue Last,
3rd Sigducer Sigma 33, Mike Hempstead.

Colne Yacht Club, Brightlingsea, versus Dabchicks and West Mersea Yacht Club for the "Mersea Splash Trophy" 7th & 8th May 2005

On Saturday the strong North Westerly winds were not favourable for this new inter club event. The CYC as host decided to go for it and their committee boat took up station close to No6, laid a line, set a course and was soon joined by six CYC Yachts.

Unfortunately conditions appeared to be much worse in Mersea and none of their Yachts were prepared to leave their moorings.
Undaunted the start sequence started. Just before the start Cracker was still struggling to hoist sails on the wrong side of the line and Redwing decided enough was enough and headed for home.

All this activity confused some of the others. Only Lunan got away cleanly. Mistress of Colne got away next followed by Deben Huntress and Danera. Cracker started some five minutes late and appeared to have a mountain to climb! Mistress chased by Huntress had given Lunan a run for her money to No 6 but as the beat carried on to No1 the conditions wore them down, Huntress rather more than Mistress! The light weight Danera was overpowered from the start! However the tough conditions were meat and drink to Cracker and by No1 was up with Lunan.

Knowing he still had to make up time Cracker was the only Yacht to set a Spinnaker down wind to No2 and onto the Inner Bench Head. At first every thing went well. He got past Lunan and started to build a lead. Then disaster! The Pole down haul broke and in the struggle to recover the sail and the pole one of the crew was knocked out and nearly went over the side!
Fortunately the guard rails served their purpose and she quickly recovered. The quickest way home was to complete the course. As he approached the Batemans line it looked as if Lunan and Mistress might still be in touch but just as he crossed the line a squall came through. The boats astern had to shorten sail and lost ground. Lunan lost sight of the last mark and missed it out and had to retire giving second place to Mistress and third to Huntress.

On Sunday the conditions seemed better. Eight Mersea Yachts arrived on the line and five CYC. There was an orderly start for a longer two lap race. Kick um Jenny got away first followed by Cracker and Spirit of Defiance. Most of the bigger faster boats pulled away up wind to No1. Most of these were Mersea boats and the smaller Brightlingsea boats were getting left behind. However Cracker kept up in the first three as they came round No1 and headed down wind under Spinnakers to the Inner Bench Head and onto the North Eagle. Despite appearances the the conditions were more difficult than yesterday. The wind was not as steady and there were more line squalls with cold deliberating rain. One by one Yachts from both Clubs started to drop out. Cracker seeing the boat astern, Destiny, suffer a major knock down went to change down from Spinnaker to Jib but lost the jib over the side and damaged it so much it could not be hoisted. It was not possible to carry any of her bigger foresails so she had to retire.

As the course took Mersea boats close to home they dropped out one by one especially when the wind dropped and the tide turned! The remaining three CYC boats could not face the thought of another hour or so flogging round in alternately Gale force gusts and and freezing rain or fighting the tide with next to no wind so they retired as well. The only boat still standing was Jenny. They gamely fought their way through the calm patches and the foul tide to No 10 then had to ride out a line squall as they reached into No8. From there they had to tack up against the tide in a falling wind to finally finish as the sole survivor after just over four hours! A sterling effort!

After all that the CYC took the trophy due to their clean sweep on Saturday!

Colne Yacht Club Cruiser Racing. 1st Cock Of The River Race  23/4/05

Ten Yachts turned out on the start line in bright, cool conditions with a moderate easterly. Nearly the whole fleet crowed to the Tower end of the line and the first to brake out of the pack was Stan Fenton's Whisper closely followed by Dave Draper's Egret, Simon Sayward's Lunan and John Howard's Burlesque.

Close to No 13 Mike Hempstead's Sigducer reached up from leeward and just got round in second place. The under powered Cracker of Steve Heppel struggled in the wake of the leading boats and Sue Last's Sarantina, starting too far to leeward had to tack up, rounding last.

Out to No 8 Burlesque slowly ground down Sigducer, and close to the mark, got ahead. However at the mark they were forced to do a penalty turn for an infringement and Sigducer regained second place.

On a Spinnaker reach out to No 6 Whisper was slow to set her Spinnaker. Sigducer's went up quickly and she cut back Whispers lead and sprinted away from Burlesque who failed to hoist. As the leg went on Egret and Lunan Spinnakered up on Burlesque and Jumana, Danny Smith, after a poor start began to make some progress. Likewise Cracker made up ground. At the back of the fleet Glen Bacon's Huntress and Alan Lee's Mistress were having a close race but Sarantina could not get back on terms.

On the beat back to the Inner Bench Head Whisper showed her potential, pulling out a big lead on Sigducer and every one else. Burlesque regained ground and Egret kept well ahead of Lunan who was handicapped by starting the beat with her Spinnaker streaming from her mast head!

On the very close reach into the finish Whisper set her Asymmetric Spinnaker and continued to stretch her lead and take line honours and first place on handicap. Sigducer was under pressure from Burlesque who once again reeled her in. To keep them out Sigducer set her small Spinnaker. The hoist was difficult and at first it did not draw. Eventually it started to pull and Sigducer edged away but not enough to save her time for second place from Burlesque or third on Egret who had just kept pace all the way round. Lunan managed to finish ahead of Cracker over the water and the rest trailed in over the next twenty minutes or so.

1st Whisper, Stan Fenton Dufour forty
2nd Burlesque, John Howard, First 31.7
3rd Egret, Dave Draper, Parker 27.

Colne Yacht Club Cruiser Racing. 17/4/05. Second Cruiser Pursuit Race

In bright sunshine and a light southerly, eleven yachts came to the line for the second pursuit race. The early starters, Sarantina, Sue Last, Deben Huntress, Glen Bacon and Jumana, Danny Smith, after rounding No 13 headed for No 8 just on the Mersea side of the channel and found the going difficult in a patchy wind.

Lunan, Simon Sayward and Redwing, Colin Willet went further over to the Cocum Hills and found better breeze. Egret, Dave Draper and Sigducer, Mike Hempstead went down the St. Osyth side and made good progress till close to the mark, where they ran out of wind Uilani, Trevor Stone and Nameste, P. Hales followed down the middle and were quickly overtaken by Stan Fenton's Whisper and Steve Heppel's Cracker.

Even so Sarantina got to No 8 first but down wind with out a spinnaker she was under pressure from Lunan and Redwing who got past just by Mersea Stone. Egret and Sigducer were catching up as well.

On rounding No 15 Lunan, Redwing and Sarantina were all in a heap .Sigducer had out-manoeuvred Egret and got round No 15 next.

Beating up to No 13 Sigducer got past Sarantina, and by Creek Mouth, past Redwing. At No 13 Sigducer was trailing Lunan but had got her spinnaker repacked, put in a quick hoist and quickly reeled in Lunan who was not ready for a rehoist! Between Mersea Wreck and No 15 Lunan got her Spinnaker flying and with an inside overlap on the mark and time running out had a chance to hold on. But Sigducer was not to be denied, gybed across Lunans stern, took her wind and with seconds to spare rolled over her to take a clear lengths lead as the time ran out.

1st Sigma 33 Sigducer Mike Hempstead,
2nd Jouet 920 Lunan Simon Sayward,
3rd Etap 28 Redwing Colin Willet.

Colne Yacht Club Racing Report 9/4/05. First Series 2000 Race

In windy but sunny conditions five Club Yachts came to the start line for the first Series 2000 Race. Mike Hempstead's Sigducer was first off the line and under only reefed Main and boomed out Genoa soon pulled away from the much smaller Glen Bacon's Deben Huntress, Danny Smith's Jumana and Alan Lees Mistress of Colne. Single Handed newcomer, Ivan Cornell in Danera had run aground just before the start but skilfully extracted himself and set off last but still in contention!

With a couple of gybes Sigducer stretched out a big lead down to the Inner Bench Head. Huntress, Jumana and Mistress hung on close together. Dead down wind in a big sea all the boats had an exciting sail down to the North Eagle. On the beat back the bigger Sigducer held all the cards and by the finish had stretched out an unassailable lead However although Jumana finally got ahead of Huntress and Mistress they all stuck close together and at the finish there was only just over a hundred seconds on corrected time between the three of them with Huntress just pipping Jumana with Mistress snapping at her heels.

Colne Yacht Club Racing Report 3/4/05 - First Cruiser Pursuit Race.

In near perfect April Conditions seven Yachts came to the "Restored" Batemans Tower line for the first race of the season.

First away was Glen Bacons Deben Huntress. Close behind was Alan Lees Mistress of Colne and Danny Smith's Jumana.

Next away was Ian Hunters Mayhem, but shorthanded, when he touched just to seaward of Mersea Stone he found it next to impossible to get off. P Hales, Namesta, also short handed got in trouble on the start line, eventually crossing the line in close company with Mike Hempsteads Sigducer on whom they should have had a two minute advantage. Steve Hepples Cracker was last away giving Huntress twenty minutes.

Beating down past No 13 to No 8 Jumana edged ahead of Mistress and Huntress. After a brush with the mud off Mersea Stone Sigducer got in the groove, and before the mark got past Mistress.

Cracker got away well and was catching up fast till she ran aground close to the Stone It took her a long while to get off so she lost her chance.

Close to No 8 the wind eased and Huntress closed right up on Jumana but down wind Jumana had the advantage and edged away. Off the Stone Sigducer spinnakered past Huntress and close to No15 was breathing down Jumanas neck! Despite a slow Spinnaker drop and a difficult mark rounding it did not take many tacks for Sigducer to get past Jumana.

Down to No 8 and the finish Cracker got past Mistress and Huntress but could not quite catch Jumana and made little impression on Sigducer before time ran out. However some time later it came to light that most of the fleet had misread the Sailing Instructions and had sailed the course in a manner that passed the lead to Mistress or possibly Namesta. As the matter has not been resolved no results can be published.
